here I am, now I’m not (2002/03)
Series total – 37 images.
The pictures were made in the last years of the Tricorn Centre (Portsmouth), after it had been closed to the public and just prior to being demolished in 2004. The complex had been notable as one of the most exuberant of Britain’s 1960’s brutalist buildings.
The title comes from graffiti in one of the pictures;
here I am, now I’m not
I’m round the corner smoking pot,
– a nice epitaph for a piece of fading sixties utopianism that had gone to pot, and is now no longer.
